Cha Eunwoo has chosen the film The First Ride (working title) as his next project—and his first leading role on the big screen.

On the 3rd, his agency Fantagio confirmed, “Cha Eunwoo has recently confirmed his appearance in the film The First Ride, which he was offered. We’re grateful for all the love and support shown to our artist Cha Eunwoo and ask for your continued encouragement going forward.”

The First Ride is a coming-of-age story about four longtime friends who, upon turning thirty, set off on their first overseas trip together. Kang Haneul was previously confirmed for the film, and joining him and Cha Eunwoo are Kim Youngkwang, Kang Youngseok, and Han Sunhwa.

This film marks the first collaboration between Cha Eunwoo and Kang Haneul, and anticipation is already high for the chemistry they’ll bring to the screen.

The film is directed by Nam Daejoong, known for The Last Ride and Love Reset, and is being produced by Brain Shower and TH Story, Kang Haneul’s agency. The First Ride began filming at the end of last month.

Meanwhile, Cha Eunwoo is currently filming the Netflix series The WONDERfools. Set in 1999 during a surge of doomsday predictions, the show is a supernatural comic action-adventure that follows quirky townspeople who gain powers through an unexpected event and battle villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City. The cast includes Park Eunbin, Kim Haesook, Choi Daehoon, and Im Sungjae.

Cha Eunwoo plays Lee Woonjung, a socially awkward civil servant from Seoul who is rigidly by-the-book at work but becomes a mysterious figure outside of city hall as he investigates a series of disappearances in Haeseong. He is expected to share many scenes with Park Eunbin’s character, Chaeni.

While he debuted in the K-pop group ASTRO in 2016, Cha Eunwoo has gained international fame as an actor thanks to his roles in My ID is Gangnam Beauty, True Beauty, and Island.

Although he was previously reported to be considering a new project by the Hong sisters, he ultimately declined, leaving fans disappointed. Now, all eyes are on The First Ride and the new side of Cha Eunwoo it will unveil.
